Spring Clean Ups
Leaf & Needle Removal- It never fails that the melting snow in spring reveals a layer of leaf and needle debris that was missed in the fall, dropped over the winter, or blew in from the neighbors. Shulfer’s Sprinklers & Landscaping removes the debris, not only from your turf, but also from your landscape beds, decks, patios, and driveways.
Lawn Thatching-Thatch is the buildup of a layer of dead grass vegetation above the soil. Thatch is not created by mulching when you mow and some thatch is good for your turf. It helps retain soil moisture, returns nutrients to the soil as it decomposes, and even helps with some weed control. However, excessive thatch can be detrimental to your lawn and should be removed periodically. Excessive thatch can harbor disease and turf destroying insects and cause your lawn to thin out over time. Shulfer’s Sprinklers & Landscaping can help by mechanically removing the thatch to prevent excessive buildup.
Lawn Aeration- For most landscapes, core aeration will provide the most benefits to maintain a healthy turf or rejuvenate a declining lawn. Like the name implies, core aeration removes 3-4 inch long cores from the soil. Core aeration helps alleviate compacted soils in order for roots to grow and spread more easily. It also allows for better air and water infiltration into the soil profile, both of which are vital for healthy turf and tree roots.
Overseeding- Overseeding is the act of incorporating new grass seed into an existing lawn and both spring and fall are great times to overseed a thinning turf. For best results you need good seed-to-soil contact and our overseeding process sows the grass seed into the top portion of the soil in order to get optimum germination.
Bark Mulch Topdressing- Spring is the perfect time to topdress your landscape beds with a fresh layer of bark mulch. Topdressing refreshes the color in your beds while maintaining the mulch layer which helps retain soil moisture and helps with weed control. Mulch can be applied by hand with rakes and wheelbarrows or with our bark blower machine. The bark blower can put down a thin layer of mulch in order to not cover up or damage tender emerging perennials, annuals, and bulbs or prevent excessive buildup around the trunks of trees and shrubs. We have a variety of types and colors of mulch to fit your landscape.
Edging-If your sidewalk and driveway seem smaller or you can’t tell where your landscape bed and lawn edges meet, it might be time to do some edging. Shulfer’s Sprinklers & Landscaping can edge along driveways, sidewalks, and planting beds to redefine their size and shape.
Fall Clean Ups
Leaf and Needle Removal- Definitely the most common reason that we receive calls for fall clean ups is for leaf and needle debris removal. It is essential to remove that debris from your lawn in order to prevent it from smothering your turf and killing it out in spots. Like our spring leaf and needle removal, we remove the debris from your landscape beds, patios, decks, driveways, and sidewalks also.
Lawn Aeration- Fall is one of the best times to core aerate your lawn. By removing the cores from the soil profile it helps alleviate the soil compaction which allows the roots to grow and spread more easily. Aeration also allows better air and water infiltration into the soil profile which is vital for healthy turf and tree roots. Fall lawn aeration is a great way to jump-start your lawn in the spring.
Overseeding and Edging- These are done exactly as they should be done for Spring Clean Ups.
